What you get

What a new website should do for your business

Your site won’t be my first. Since 2016 I’ve delivered 154 Upwork jobs for more than 100 clients, and 94 of them were WordPress and Divi websites: new builds, redesigns and rebuilds for NewtonX, Keller Williams Realty Consultants, the Institute of Reading Development, the World Food Travel Association, Website HQ and Arlene P., among others. Every one is listed on my Upwork profile.

More calls from people searching nearby

A page for each service and each town you serve, schema markup, and your Google Business Profile connected, so the site shows up when neighbors search.

A price you know before work starts

A written, fixed quote after a free consultation. Sites start at $2,500 and the number does not creep once we agree on it.

One person, start to finish

I design it, build it, write it and launch it. When you call with a question, you reach the person who made the last change.

Website design

From $2,500 one-time

A five-page site for a service business sits near that number. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store add to it. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

What a Traverse City website has to do in July and in January

Traverse City is a small city with a big summer. It had 15,678 people at the 2020 census, but the National Cherry Festival alone draws about 500,000 visitors a year. Summer tourism drives a large share of retail and restaurant sales here, and hospitality employs about 14% of the Grand Traverse workforce.

So your website has two jobs.

In season, most of the people on it have never heard of you. They found you on Google, on a phone, often while standing on Front Street or driving up a peninsula road, sometimes on a weak connection. They want hours, location, prices and a booking button, and they want them before the page finishes loading. A heavy site with a video header and a slider loses them.

Out of season, your customers are locals and repeat visitors. They already know your name. They want to know whether you’re open, what’s new, and how to reach you. A site that still shows August hours in December tells them nobody is minding it.

Websites for wineries, charters, lodging and restaurants around Grand Traverse Bay

Different businesses in Traverse City need different things from a site. The structure changes more than the look.

  • Wineries and tasting rooms. There are more than 50 wineries near Traverse City, and two federally recognized wine regions, the Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula AVAs, sit right next to the city. Visitors compare them on a phone before choosing which two or three to visit. Tasting hours, reservation rules, group policies and directions from town belong on the first screen.
  • Fishing charters and boat tours. People book these before they arrive. Trip lengths, what’s included, what to bring, departure location and a booking calendar matter more than anything else on the page.
  • Lodging. Room pages with real photos, what’s walkable, and a booking link that goes straight to availability. If guests book around Cherry Festival week, dates and minimum stays need to be clear.
  • Restaurants and breweries. Menu, hours and a map, one tap each. If you take reservations, the button goes at the top. Traverse City runs a Beer Week every November, and a brewery site should make its events easy to find.

Questions to settle before you hire a Traverse City web designer

How fast does my site need to be for visitors on a phone?

Fast enough that the hours and the booking button show up before someone gives up. Visitors search on a phone, out of their home area, and they tap the next result if yours stalls. Speed comes from what’s on the page as much as from hosting. Big uncompressed photos, autoplay video, several tracking scripts and a page builder that loads everything at once all slow it down.

I size and compress every image, keep the first screen light, and test on a real phone before launch with Google’s own speed tools. Your photos of the bay and the vineyard still go on the site. They just get loaded so they don’t hold up the part that gets you the booking.

What happens to my site and listings when I close for the winter?

A closed business that looks abandoned online is a problem in May. Some customers assume you’ve shut down for good, and a listing with old hours sends the rest somewhere else.

I set up a clear seasonal notice that you can turn on and off, with your reopening date and a way to join a mailing list or book ahead. Your Google Business Profile gets the same status, so the two agree. The rest of the site stays up and indexed through the winter, which is when visitors start planning their summer trips. If you sell gift cards, merchandise or next season’s bookings, the winter version of the homepage puts those first.

What do you need from me to build the site?

Your logo, your current hours by season, and real photos of the place, the water, the rooms or the boat. Stock photos of a generic vineyard don’t sell a specific one. Login details for your domain, your current site and your booking tool. A list of what you sell, and the questions customers ask you over and over, because those become the pages. I write the copy if you’d like, and you approve every word before launch. If you take bookings, I’ll also need a test account or a contact at your booking provider, so I can check every button works before it goes live.

Not every Traverse City business lives on tourists. Munson Healthcare, headquartered in the city, is the largest employer north of U.S. Route 10 in Michigan, and Traverse City is a medical referral hub for 29 counties. Patients and families from across the north come in for appointments, and the trades, offices and services around town serve locals through winters with snow from November to April.

For those businesses I build the site around calls and quote requests: a page for each service, the towns and townships you serve, including Garfield Township and the peninsulas if you work there, and a short form that works on a phone. Every site I build includes local SEO basics. For the ongoing ranking work, see my Traverse City SEO page and my wider Michigan SEO services. After launch, website management keeps it updated and backed up. More on how a build runs is on my web design page.

I’m in Harrison Township, about five hours from Traverse City by car, and the work runs by phone, video call and email. Send me your current site, or tell me you don’t have one, and I’ll tell you what I’d build first.

How it works

How a website project runs, from the first call to launch

  1. 01

    Discovery

A short questionnaire, then a call about your customers, your competitors and what a good month looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

I design the homepage first. You approve the direction before I build the rest.

  3. 03

    Build and launch

Every page built and tested on real phones. Every old page redirected, so the rankings you have carry over.

  4. 04

    After launch

I stay around for questions and changes. If you want updates handled for you, that is my management plan.

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

FAQ

Questions from Traverse City business owners

Can my website take reservations or bookings directly?

Yes. I connect your site to the booking tool you already use, whether that's for tables, tastings, rooms or charters, so bookings land in one place. If you don't have one yet, I'll tell you which kind fits your business before you pay for anything.

Will I be able to change my hours and menu myself?

Yes. I set up the pages you change often, like hours, menus and seasonal specials, so you can edit them without calling me. If you'd rather not, my website management plan covers small edits like that.

How much does a website cost for a Traverse City business?

My websites start at $2,500. A small site for one location sits near that number. Online booking, a store, more pages or copywriting raise it. You get a fixed written quote before I start.

Do you meet with Traverse City clients in person?

No. I'm in Harrison Township, about five hours away by car. Every project runs by phone, video call and email, and you review each page on a link I send you.
