What you get

What AI search optimization should do for your business

Named when a customer asks an AI who to hire

When someone asks ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews or Perplexity for a plumber, a lawyer or a dentist near them, your business is one of the answers, with your real phone number and address.

Pages an AI can quote

Direct answers to the questions your customers ask, in the words they use, so an assistant can lift them and cite your site as the source.

One set of facts everywhere

Your name, address, phone, hours, services and reviews matched across your website, Google Business Profile and the listings AI assistants read.

AI search optimization

From $1,500 one-time

One-time, for one website and one location. Multi-location businesses and large sites are quoted after a first look. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

What happens when a customer asks an AI instead of searching Google

Someone in Clinton Township types “who’s a good electrician near me” into ChatGPT, or asks Google a question and reads the AI Overview at the top instead of the ten blue links. The assistant doesn’t show a list of twenty websites. It names two or three businesses, says a line about each, and sometimes links to a source. If you’re not in that short answer, there’s no page two to find you on.

Those answers aren’t magic. The assistants read your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and the directories that list you, then write what they found. When those sources disagree, or your site never plainly says what you do and where, the assistant picks a competitor whose facts are easier to trust. AI search optimization is the work of fixing what the assistants read.

What’s included in a $1,500 AEO audit and optimization

  • A baseline, with screenshots. I ask ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini the questions your customers ask, in the ways they ask them, and record what each one says about you and about your competitors.
  • An audit of what an AI reads. Your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your listings, checked for the things that keep an assistant from naming you: missing or wrong schema markup, facts that disagree from one listing to the next, pages that describe your services without ever answering the question, and no clear statement of who you are and where you work.
  • Schema and entity markup. Structured data that spells out your business, your services, your service area, your owner and your reviews in the format the assistants and Google both parse.
  • Answer blocks on your service pages. Short, direct answers to the questions customers ask, written in plain language an assistant can quote, with the detail that makes your answer better than the generic one.
  • An about page an AI can parse. Who you are, how long you’ve done this, where you work and what you’re known for, stated plainly and linked to your profiles.
  • Listing corrections. Name, address, phone, hours and services matched across your profile and the directories the assistants cite, and duplicates handled.
  • A follow-up check and written report. The same questions asked again once the changes have settled, before-and-after screenshots, what I changed and why, and the few things worth doing each month on your own.

Questions to settle before you pay for AI search optimization

Which AI assistants does the work cover?

ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini are the four I check, because they’re the ones customers use to find a local business. Microsoft Copilot draws on the same web as the others, so it benefits from the same fixes without a separate pass.

The work isn’t tuned to one assistant. Every fix is to a source they all read: your site’s markup and copy, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your listings. That’s deliberate. The assistants change how they answer every few weeks, and a trick aimed at one of them stops working. Accurate, consistent, quotable facts about your business keep working.

How will I know whether it worked?

You’ll see it in the report. The baseline records exactly what each assistant said about you on day one, with screenshots and the wording of each question. The follow-up asks the same questions the same way after the changes have had time to settle, and puts the answers side by side. If an assistant went from naming three competitors to naming you, you’ll see it. If one still doesn’t, you’ll see that too, along with my read on why and what would move it.

AI answers also change on their own, so I show you how to re-run the check yourself in a few minutes a month. If you’d rather I do it and keep adjusting, that’s part of local SEO.

What will you need from me?

The questions customers actually ask you, in their words, because those are the prompts I test. Manager access to your Google Business Profile. A list of every directory you’ve ever claimed a listing on, if you remember them. The login for your website, or the contact for whoever manages it, so the schema and page changes can go in. A few facts only you know: when you started, who owns the business, your real service area, and the things you’d want an assistant to say about you. Then an hour or so to read the report and ask questions.

Does the one-time price cover ongoing work?

It covers the baseline, the audit, every fix on the list and the follow-up report. It doesn’t cover re-checking the assistants every month, writing new answer pages as customers’ questions change, or managing reviews and listings over time. That ongoing work is part of my local SEO service, from $2,000 a month, month to month, which covers Google rankings and AI answers together because they draw on the same sources. Most businesses start with the one-time job and decide about ongoing work after they’ve seen the report.

Why AI answers about local businesses lean on your profile and reviews

Tell me what your business does and where, and you get a written, fixed quote. No contract lock-in.

Get my quoteOr call 586-221-0792

Ask an assistant for a dentist in Royal Oak and the answer reads a lot like the Google map results: names, ratings, a line about each office. That’s because the assistants lean on the same signals for local questions, your Google Business Profile, your review count and rating, and whether your website backs up what the profile says. A profile with the wrong category or two years of silence hurts you in an AI answer the same way it hurts you on the map.

So for a local business, answer engine optimization starts with the basics done properly, then adds what the assistants need on top: markup that names you unambiguously, pages that answer the question, and a steady set of facts everywhere. If your profile is the weak link, the $400 profile cleanup may be the first thing to fix. If the site is thin or slow, a new website might come before either. I’ll tell you which, and I won’t sell you the AEO job if the baseline shows you’re already the answer.

Send me your website address and the three questions customers ask you most, and I’ll tell you where you stand and whether the job is worth paying for.

How it works

How an answer engine optimization audit runs, start to finish

  1. 01

    Baseline

  2. 02

    Audit

Your site, your profile and your listings, checked for what an AI reads: schema markup, facts that disagree, pages that never answer the question, and missing sources.

  3. 03

    Fixes

Schema and entity markup, an about page an AI can parse, answer blocks and FAQs on your service pages, llms.txt, and corrections to the listings that feed the assistants.

  4. 04

    Report and handoff

The same questions asked again after the changes settle, with before-and-after screenshots, what I changed and the few things worth doing each month.

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

Working with Ryan York at WebPossible made redesigning our website a great experience. Our acupuncture practice recently needed to update our website, and I wanted to find someone we could communicate with and who would be able to produce quick, professional results within our small budget. And just as importantly, I wanted that person to be able to understand the what we are about so that the website could project that to potential patients. We found the right web designer! Ryan is clear, precise and professional. It amazes me how quickly he was able to create a new website for us and respond to any changes we wanted. And all this without having any face-to-face meetings, and for a great price! We are really happy, and I recommend this company wholeheartedly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about answer engine optimization

What is answer engine optimization?

Answer engine optimization, or AEO, is the work of getting your business named and cited when someone asks an AI assistant a question instead of searching Google the old way. ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini all read the web, your Google Business Profile and directory listings, then write an answer. AEO makes sure what they read is accurate, consistent and easy to quote, so the answer includes you.

Is AEO different from SEO, and do I need both?

They overlap. The assistants draw on the same sources Google ranks, so a site that ranks well is already halfway there. AEO adds the parts search alone doesn't require, such as schema markup that spells out who you are, pages written as direct answers, matching facts across every listing, and a baseline of what the assistants actually say about you. If your site doesn't rank at all yet, local SEO comes first.

What's the difference between AEO and generative engine optimization (GEO)?

Mostly the name. Generative engine optimization, AI search optimization, LLM optimization and AEO all describe optimizing for AI-written answers. Some people use GEO for the AI chat tools and AEO for Google's featured snippets and AI Overviews. The work I do covers both, and I call it AEO because that's the term most people search for when they want it done.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and no one honest can. The assistants change how they answer week to week, and they weigh reviews, listings and competitors I don't control. What I can do is make every source they read say the same true things about you, give them pages worth quoting, and show you the exact answers before and after the work, with screenshots.

Is the $1,500 a one-time fee or a subscription?

One-time. It covers the baseline, the audit, the fixes and the follow-up report for one website and one location. If you want the questions re-checked and the content kept current every month, that's part of my local SEO plan, from $2,000 a month, month to month.
