What you get

What a new website should do for your business

Your site won’t be my first. Since 2016 I’ve delivered 154 Upwork jobs for more than 100 clients, and 94 of them were WordPress and Divi websites: new builds, redesigns and rebuilds for NewtonX, Keller Williams Realty Consultants, the Institute of Reading Development, the World Food Travel Association, Website HQ and Arlene P., among others. Every one is listed on my Upwork profile.

More calls from people searching nearby

A page for each service and each town you serve, schema markup, and your Google Business Profile connected, so the site shows up when neighbors search.

A price you know before work starts

A written, fixed quote after a free consultation. Sites start at $2,500 and the number does not creep once we agree on it.

One person, start to finish

I design it, build it, write it and launch it. When you call with a question, you reach the person who made the last change.

Website design

From $2,500 one-time

A five-page site for a service business sits near that number. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store add to it. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

Who’s searching in Ann Arbor, and what they want to see

Ann Arbor had 123,851 people at the 2020 census, and it’s the county seat of Washtenaw County. The University of Michigan employs about 30,000 people here, roughly 12,000 of them at its medical center. So the people searching for a business like yours are two different crowds: students, staff, patients and visiting families who are new to town, and long-time residents who already know which businesses they like.

The first crowd doesn’t know your name. They search on a phone, compare a few results and pick the one that answers their question first. If your site is slow or vague, they move to the next result. The second crowd judges you against what they use every day. Ann Arbor’s economy leans on technology, research and health care, and people who work with good software notice a dated site.

That plays out differently by business:

  • Downtown shops and restaurants. Menu, hours, reservations and directions need to be one tap away, because the decision gets made on a phone on the sidewalk.
  • Practices and professional services. Patients and clients who came to town for the university or the hospital want to know what you do, whether you’re near them and how to book before they’ll call.
  • Contractors and home services. You’re competing with crews from Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter and the rest of Washtenaw County, and homeowners here compare several before calling one.

Two things about Ann Arbor that change how I build

Why does downtown count as four districts, and should my site name them?

Downtown Ann Arbor isn’t one place. It has four main districts, and each one pulls a different crowd.

Main Street is restaurants, bars and shops that rely on dinner and weekend traffic. State Street has shops and restaurants with a lot of student and visitor foot traffic, where quick answers and mobile ordering matter. Kerrytown is home to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market on Detroit Street, plus the shops and restaurants of Kerrytown Market and Shops. Businesses there do well with regulars, and a site that shows what’s new this week gives them a reason to come back. South University depends on students, so traffic follows the school calendar.

If you’re in one of these districts, your site and your Google Business Profile should say which one. People search that way, and “coffee in Kerrytown” is a different search from “coffee in Ann Arbor.” I write the district into your homepage, your contact page and your profile so Google can match you to both.

What does a site need when visitors arrive in waves and don't know you?

The Ann Arbor Art Fairs run on downtown streets during the third week of July and draw upward of half a million visitors. Michigan Stadium holds about 107,600, and it fills on home football Saturdays. On days like those, people find businesses through Google Maps while standing on the street, and they pick whoever shows hours, a menu or a phone number first.

Those weekends are won ahead of time. A downtown business should have its hours, location and any special-event notes updated well before the crowd arrives, on both the website and the Maps listing, so the two agree. I build sites where those details are quick to change, and I set up the Google Business Profile to match the site. The quieter weeks matter too. The same new-to-town searches happen every fall when a new class arrives, and every time a patient’s family comes in for an appointment at the medical center.

  • A homepage that says what you do and that you’re in Ann Arbor, in the first line
  • Phone-first design, tested on real phones before launch
  • Fast load times, checked with Google’s own tools
  • Local SEO built in: titles, a page for each service, schema markup, and your Google Business Profile matched to the site
  • Analytics, so you can see where calls and form fills come from

For contractors, I build the site around quote requests: a page for each service, so you can rank for “roof repair Ann Arbor” and “kitchen remodel Ann Arbor” separately, real photos of finished jobs labeled with the type of work, the towns you serve (including Ypsilanti, which shares an urban area with Ann Arbor), and a short quote form with click-to-call that works on a phone. My page on lead generation websites for contractors covers this in more detail.

I’m in Harrison Township, about 85 minutes from Ann Arbor by car, and every project runs by phone, video call and email. If you need ongoing rankings work after launch, see my Michigan SEO services. It’s month to month, with no lock-in.

How it works

How a website project runs, from the first call to launch

  1. 01

    Discovery

A short questionnaire, then a call about your customers, your competitors and what a good month looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

I design the homepage first. You approve the direction before I build the rest.

  3. 03

    Build and launch

Every page built and tested on real phones. Every old page redirected, so the rankings you have carry over.

  4. 04

    After launch

I stay around for questions and changes. If you want updates handled for you, that is my management plan.

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

FAQ

Questions from Ann Arbor business owners

Ann Arbor has plenty of agencies. Why hire a one-person studio from Macomb County?

Because you talk to the person doing the work. I'm in Harrison Township, about an hour and a half away by car, and every project runs by phone, video call and email. You get a fixed written quote, no account manager in between, and you own everything when we're done.

I'm a contractor in Ann Arbor. What should my website do differently?

Get quote requests. That means a page for each service you offer, photos of finished jobs, the towns you'll drive to, and a short form that works on a phone. Ann Arbor homeowners often compare several contractors before calling one, so the site has to answer their questions faster than your competitors' sites do.

Can my site handle the Art Fair crowds or a game-day rush?

The sites I build load fast and stay fast under traffic, especially the lighter static builds. If you run a restaurant or shop downtown, I'll make sure your hours, menu and any special event information are easy to update before those weekends.

What does a website cost in Ann Arbor?

Mine start at $2,500 no matter where you're located. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store raise the price. You see the full number in a fixed written quote before I start.
