What you get

What a new website should do for your business

Your site won’t be my first. Since 2016 I’ve delivered 154 Upwork jobs for more than 100 clients, and 94 of them were WordPress and Divi websites: new builds, redesigns and rebuilds for NewtonX, Keller Williams Realty Consultants, the Institute of Reading Development, the World Food Travel Association, Website HQ and Arlene P., among others. Every one is listed on my Upwork profile.

More calls from people searching nearby

A page for each service and each town you serve, schema markup, and your Google Business Profile connected, so the site shows up when neighbors search.

A price you know before work starts

A written, fixed quote after a free consultation. Sites start at $2,500 and the number does not creep once we agree on it.

One person, start to finish

I design it, build it, write it and launch it. When you call with a question, you reach the person who made the last change.

Website design

From $2,500 one-time

A five-page site for a service business sits near that number. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store add to it. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

Who’s searching in Marquette, and what they want to see

Marquette had 20,629 people at the 2020 census. It’s the largest city in the Upper Peninsula and the county seat of Marquette County, which had about 66,000 residents and is the most populous county in the UP. For a lot of people across the central UP, Marquette is where they come to shop, eat out, see a doctor or go to school. So the person searching for your business is often not from Marquette at all.

A few groups show up again and again:

  • Students and their families. Northern Michigan University is the largest university in the Upper Peninsula, with nearly 10,000 students. They turn over every year, and every new class searches for food, housing, services and things to do from scratch.
  • Patients and the people with them. UP Health System-Marquette is the only Level 2 trauma center in the Upper Peninsula, so patients and families travel in from across the region. Clinics, pharmacies, hotels and restaurants near the hospital see searches from people who don’t know the city.
  • Visitors here for the lake and the outdoors. Marquette sits on Lake Superior, and it’s the third-largest American city on the lake, after Duluth and Superior. Presque Isle Park on the north side has trails, a marina and a band shell, and Marquette Mountain is the local ski area. Those visitors search the moment they arrive.

Two things about Marquette that change how I build

Why are winter and summer two different businesses online?

Marquette averages about 149 inches of snow a year. That changes how businesses run, and it should change how their websites work. Hours shift. Some services stop in winter and others start. Outfitters, rental companies, restaurants and contractors all have a summer version of the business and a winter version.

A site that still lists summer hours in January loses customers, and so does a Google Business Profile that disagrees with the website. I build Marquette sites so seasonal details (hours, rates, what’s open, what’s booking) live in one obvious place and are quick to change. When they change, the Maps listing gets updated at the same time. If you’d rather never touch it, my website management plan is $99 a month and covers those updates along with backups and security.

Why does a weak cell signal change how the site is built?

Marquette grew up as a port shipping iron ore from the Marquette Iron Range, and the Presque Isle Harbor Ore Dock dates to 1912. The city also has a craft brewing scene, with five breweries counted as of 2019. People who come for the lake, the trails, the ore dock or the breweries search on their phones as soon as they arrive, often from a shoreline or a trailhead where the signal is poor.

That’s why I build light. A page that loads on one bar keeps the visitor, and a page that spins loses them to the next result. Your phone number, hours and directions sit at the top, and the site says plainly that you’re in Marquette, so a first-time visitor isn’t left guessing whether you’re in town or out toward Ishpeming.

  • A homepage that says what you do and that you’re in Marquette, in the first line
  • Pages for each service, plus the nearby towns you serve
  • Fast, light pages that hold up on a weak connection
  • Click-to-call, directions and a short quote or booking form
  • Your Google Business Profile matched to the site’s name, address, phone number and services
  • Analytics so you can see where calls and bookings come from

I’m in Harrison Township, in Macomb County, about 450 miles and eight and a half hours from Marquette by car, and I won’t claim to be local. The work runs by phone, video call and email, and because I’m not on the ground I look at who shows up in Google for your services in Marquette, what their sites get right and what they’re missing, before I design anything. In a smaller market, that gap is usually easy to find.

How it works

How a website project runs, from the first call to launch

  1. 01

    Discovery

A short questionnaire, then a call about your customers, your competitors and what a good month looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

I design the homepage first. You approve the direction before I build the rest.

  3. 03

    Build and launch

Every page built and tested on real phones. Every old page redirected, so the rankings you have carry over.

  4. 04

    After launch

I stay around for questions and changes. If you want updates handled for you, that is my management plan.

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

FAQ

Questions from Marquette business owners

You're eight hours away. Is that a problem?

Not for the work itself. Every project I do runs by phone, video call and email, including for clients near my office. I won't visit, and I won't pretend to know the UP like someone who lives there. We're on the same Eastern time zone, so scheduling a call is easy.

My business is busiest in summer, or in winter. Can the site change with the seasons?

Yes. I build so that seasonal hours, rates and offers are easy to update, either by you or by me on my $99 a month management plan. The key is to update the website and your Google Business Profile at the same time so they never disagree.

Can you help me reach customers in Negaunee, Ishpeming and Harvey?

Yes, if you serve them. Marquette's urban area runs west toward Negaunee and Ishpeming and south toward Harvey. I'll set up service pages and your Google Business Profile service area to cover the places you actually work.

How much does a website cost for a Marquette business?

My sites start at $2,500. A small service business site sits close to that. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store add to it. You get a fixed written quote before I start.
