What you get

What a new website should do for your business

Your site won’t be my first. Since 2016 I’ve delivered 154 Upwork jobs for more than 100 clients, and 94 of them were WordPress and Divi websites: new builds, redesigns and rebuilds for NewtonX, Keller Williams Realty Consultants, the Institute of Reading Development, the World Food Travel Association, Website HQ and Arlene P., among others. Every one is listed on my Upwork profile.

More calls from people searching nearby

A page for each service and each town you serve, schema markup, and your Google Business Profile connected, so the site shows up when neighbors search.

A price you know before work starts

A written, fixed quote after a free consultation. Sites start at $2,500 and the number does not creep once we agree on it.

One person, start to finish

I design it, build it, write it and launch it. When you call with a question, you reach the person who made the last change.

Website design

From $2,500 one-time

A five-page site for a service business sits near that number. More pages, copywriting, booking or a store add to it. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

Who’s searching in Detroit, and what they want to see

Detroit had 639,111 people in the 2020 census, spread across almost 139 square miles. The city’s 2025 estimate of 649,095 was its first population increase since 1950. It’s the largest U.S. city on the Canadian border, across the Detroit River from Windsor, Ontario.

A city that size doesn’t search like a suburb. Nobody types “plumber Detroit” and expects someone from the other side of a 139-square-mile city. People search by neighborhood, by corridor and by “near me,” so your site has to say exactly where you are and which parts of the city you serve. “Serving Detroit” on its own doesn’t help much.

Who that searcher is depends on your block:

  • Storefronts in a commercial district. Neighbors and visitors who look you up before they walk in, usually on a phone, usually to check hours and what you sell.
  • Trades and home services. Homeowners on your side of the city who want someone close, and who skip a site that doesn’t name their neighborhood.
  • Food businesses and vendors. People deciding between you and the place next door, on Google Maps, right now.

Three things about Detroit that change how I build

Why does each business district have its own customers?

Three examples of how different the districts are.

Eastern Market was formally designated by the city in 1891, and it now draws 30,000 to 40,000 people on a regular summer Saturday. Vendors, food businesses and the shops around the market need sites that show market days, what they sell and how to order between Saturdays.

The Avenue of Fashion, the stretch of Livernois in the University District between Seven and Eight Mile, has long been known for Black-owned shops, restaurants and salons. Construction in 2019 followed by COVID closed a lot of businesses there. The ones that stayed, and the ones opening now, depend on being found by people who don’t already know them.

In Corktown, Ford bought Michigan Central Station in 2018 and has been redeveloping it into a new campus, and that project is driving the neighborhood’s revival. Businesses there compete for visitors who arrive knowing the station and nothing else.

A site for any of these names the district on the homepage, in the page titles and in the Google Business Profile, so a search for “near Eastern Market” or “on Livernois” lands on you.

Why do new businesses get looked up before anyone walks in?

Motor City Match, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation’s small business program, has run grant rounds since 2015 to help entrepreneurs open brick-and-mortar businesses in the city. In Round 28 alone, the city reported over $450,000 in grants to 13 new businesses, and 90 percent of that round’s businesses were minority-owned.

New storefronts like these have one shot at a first impression. Neighbors look you up before they walk in. If the search turns up nothing, or a half-built page with no hours, some of them won’t bother. A fast, clear website and a verified Google Business Profile that are live before opening day fix that. If the build-out is eating the budget, start with the pages that matter (home, what you sell, where you are, how to reach you) and add the rest after the doors open.

What does affordable mean here?

Affordable shouldn’t mean a template with your logo on it and nobody to call when it breaks. My sites start at $2,500 because that covers a real design, written for your business, with local SEO built in from the start. You get a fixed written quote, and you own your domain, your site and your Google Business Profile. What moves the price above the floor is more pages, copywriting, online ordering or a store, and the quote spells out each one so you can leave off what you don’t need yet.

If you want me to handle updates after launch, my website management plan is $99 a month. For a full breakdown of what moves the price, see my pricing guides or the page on affordable website design.

  • A homepage that says what you do and which neighborhood you’re in, in the first line
  • Click-to-call, a short quote or order form, and directions with parking notes
  • A Google Business Profile that matches your site exactly ($400 one-time for Google Business Profile optimization)
  • Pages for each service and for the neighborhoods and nearby cities you serve, like Grosse Pointe or Royal Oak
  • Fast pages that work on a phone

I’m in Harrison Township, about 29 miles from downtown Detroit, and the work runs by phone, video call and email from the first call through launch. Already have a site and need it to rank? See my Detroit SEO services.

How it works

How a website project runs, from the first call to launch

  1. 01

    Discovery

A short questionnaire, then a call about your customers, your competitors and what a good month looks like.

  2. 02

    Design

I design the homepage first. You approve the direction before I build the rest.

  3. 03

    Build and launch

Every page built and tested on real phones. Every old page redirected, so the rankings you have carry over.

  4. 04

    After launch

I stay around for questions and changes. If you want updates handled for you, that is my management plan.

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

FAQ

Questions from Detroit business owners

What does an affordable website cost in Detroit?

Mine start at $2,500. A simple site for a neighborhood service business or a single storefront sits near that number. More pages, copywriting, online ordering or a store add to it. You get a fixed written quote before I start, so the number doesn't move.

You're in Harrison Township. How do we work together?

By phone, video call and email. That's how I run every project, so the 45 minutes between us doesn't matter. You see each design on your screen while we talk it through.

I'm opening a new storefront. When should the website go up?

Before you open, if you can. Get your Google Business Profile verified and a basic site live with your address, hours and phone number, so people searching your block can find you on day one. You can add to the site after the doors open.

My customers mostly find me on Instagram. Do I need a website?

Instagram helps people who already follow you. A website and a Google Business Profile help the people searching for what you sell who have never heard of you. Your site is also the one channel you own outright.

Do you do SEO for Detroit businesses too?

Yes. See my Detroit SEO page for details. Local SEO starts at $2,000 a month, month to month with no lock-in.
