What you get

What WordPress management should do for your business

A site someone else built is normal for me. More than 50 of my Upwork contracts were updates, fixes, troubleshooting and ongoing care for WordPress sites other people built, for clients like CPA on Fire, ArtLife Gallery, Pulse Commerce, Evolve USA and Insure My Food. The contracts are on my Upwork profile.

A site that stays up and stays safe

WordPress, theme and plugins kept current, backups stored away from your host, malware monitoring and an alert if the site goes down.

Edits done by email

New text, photos, hours, prices, a staff change, a holiday notice. Send a note and it gets done.

A straight answer about your site

Questions about hosting, a plugin someone is selling you, or something that looks off come to me, not a ticket queue.

Website management

From $99 per month

Per month, for one WordPress site. Larger sites and stores are quoted after a first look. You get a written, fixed quote after a free consultation. No contract lock-in.

Why a WordPress website needs looking after

WordPress runs a huge share of small business websites because it’s flexible and easy to edit. The tradeoff is upkeep. Every site depends on WordPress itself, a theme and a stack of plugins, and all of them get updates, some of them security fixes. Skip them for a year and things start to break. A plugin stops working with the new version of PHP your host installed. A contact form quietly stops sending. Or someone finds an old hole and fills your site with spam links.

Most owners I talk to know they should be doing updates and backups. They don’t, because they’re busy running the business, and because updating a live site with no backup is nerve-wracking. That’s a fair reason to hand it off.

What’s included in website management for $99 a month

  • Updates. WordPress core, your theme and your plugins, kept current. I check the site after updates so a broken layout or form doesn’t sit there for a week.
  • Backups. Your files and database backed up on a regular schedule and stored away from your web server, so a problem with your host doesn’t take the backups with it.
  • Security. Monitoring for malware and suspicious changes, cleanup if something gets in, and sensible hardening like removing plugins you no longer use.
  • Uptime monitoring. I get an alert if your site goes down, so I can start on it instead of waiting for a customer to mention it.
  • Small edits. New text, photos, hours, prices, a staff change, a holiday notice. Send me an email and I’ll make the change.
  • Plain answers. Questions about your site, your hosting or a plugin someone is trying to sell you go to me, and you get a straight answer.

What doesn't the management plan cover?

New page designs, new features, a store, a redesign or a full rewrite of your content are projects, so they get their own written quote before I start. The line is roughly this: a change to something that already exists, like new text, a swapped photo, updated hours or a new staff member, is covered. Something that doesn’t exist yet, like a new page layout, a booking system or a store, gets a quote.

Hosting and domain fees are paid by you to your provider, so you always hold the account. If the first look shows your site needs repair work before monthly care can start, you get a fixed quote for that part first. If your site needs SEO work to rank, that’s my local SEO service. If you need new articles written, that’s my content writing, at $150 an article, and publishing them is part of the plan.

Will you take on a WordPress site you didn't build?

That’s most of them. I’ve worked on WordPress sites built by agencies, freelancers, page builders and owners who taught themselves. Some are tidy. Some have twenty plugins doing the job of five. Either way, I’ll tell you what I removed and why.

If the first look turns up a bigger problem, like a hacked site or a theme that can’t be updated safely, I’ll tell you what it needs and what fixing it costs before doing it. And if your site has reached the point where patching it costs more than it’s worth, I’ll say so. Sometimes a rebuild is the cheaper option over two or three years. I won’t push you into one.

What if my site isn't on WordPress?

The sites I build now are often lighter static sites, like this one, with no plugins to patch and no database to back up. They don’t need this plan. If you’re on one of those, or on Squarespace, Wix or another hosted builder, ask me what upkeep it does need, because the answer is usually less than you’d think.

For WordPress, this plan covers it. WordPress runs on a theme, a stack of plugins and a database, and all of them need attention, which is why it’s the one platform where monthly care pays for itself. If you’re not sure what your site runs on, send me the address and I’ll tell you.

Send me your website address and I’ll tell you what’s out of date, what’s at risk and whether the plan fits, before you pay for a month.

How it works

How website management starts, and what happens every month after

  1. 01

    Access

You give me an admin login for WordPress and access to your hosting account.

  2. 02

    A first look

I check what’s installed, what’s out of date, and whether anything is already wrong, like malware, a failing backup or an abandoned plugin.

  3. 03

    Baseline

I take a full backup before I touch anything, then bring everything up to date and set up monitoring.

  4. 04

    Every month after

Updates, backups and monitoring keep running, and you email me edits when you need them.

Why me

What most WordPress maintenance plans deliver, and what I deliver

Elsewhere, often

  • Updates run on a schedule and never checked
  • Backups stored on the same server as the site
  • A ticket queue for a one-line text change
  • A contract that outlasts the site

With me

  • The site checked after every update
  • Backups stored away from your web server
  • Small edits done by email
  • Month to month

Who you'd work with

The web designer and local SEO consultant you'll actually talk to

I'm Ryan York, and WebPossible is a one-person web design and SEO company in Harrison Township, Macomb County. I learned the work as a scuba diver in the Florida Keys, tired of waiting on the person who ran our website, which is why I think about the phone ringing first and the design second. There's no team to hand you off to. The person who answers your first call is the person who designs your website, builds it and checks your rankings.

I hired Ryan to help improve the SEO of my business website and he has been so easy to work with from the time I submitted my inquiry through the finishing touches. He is extremely responsive, organized in his approach, and thoughtful in his execution. I had many questions that I threw at Ryan, and he was able to answer them all, which made me feel really good about the entire process. Since the initial work started, I have added on more page updates because I am already seeing positive results. I look forward to continuing to work with Ryan and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to other business owners that I know!

Working with Ryan York at WebPossible made redesigning our website a great experience. Our acupuncture practice recently needed to update our website, and I wanted to find someone we could communicate with and who would be able to produce quick, professional results within our small budget. And just as importantly, I wanted that person to be able to understand the what we are about so that the website could project that to potential patients. We found the right web designer! Ryan is clear, precise and professional. It amazes me how quickly he was able to create a new website for us and respond to any changes we wanted. And all this without having any face-to-face meetings, and for a great price! We are really happy, and I recommend this company wholeheartedly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about WordPress website management

What's included for $99 a month?

WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, regular backups stored off your server, security monitoring and cleanup, uptime monitoring, and small content edits like new text, photos, hours or prices. Bigger jobs, like a new page layout or a redesign, get a separate quote first.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. It's month to month. If you want to stop, tell me and I'll hand over everything I hold for your site, including the latest backup.

Do you only manage sites you built?

No. I take on WordPress sites built by other people too. I look the site over first, because a site with abandoned plugins or a lot of custom code may need a cleanup before monthly care makes sense. If it does, I'll tell you what that costs before anything starts.

What happens if my site gets hacked or goes down?

Monitoring is there so I find out, often before you do. I fix it, restore from a backup if needed, and tell you what happened and what I changed so it's less likely to happen again.

Who owns the site and hosting?

You do. Your domain, hosting account and site stay in your name. I work with access you give me, and you can take it back whenever you like.
